Abstract:
This paper present s a metho d for comput ing the heat loss fr om g as to gun tube and temperature of the tube w all during f iring pr ocess. A part ial different ial equat ion on momentum thickness is derived f rom unsteady mass and momentum co nser vation equatio ns in integ rat ing form on boundar y layer of the tube. An unsteady quasi-one dimensional f low in the tube, w hich includes the f rict ion and heat tr ansfer betw een g as and tube and radial heat conduct ion inside the tube, is developed in order to calculate the temper ature distr ibution alo ng the wall and the heat loss thro ug h the tube, and to est imate the w al l w ear caused by the heat mechanism in the MacCormack f inite difference scheme. As an example, the max imum w all temperature of 203 mm howit zer using M14 slot ted stick propellant is 1284 K, the heat w ear in single shot is 17. 9 μm.
