In the field of control theory and applications, regional pole placement is alw ays one of the most important methods for designing cont rol systems. In this paper, a unified circular pole placement approach is proposed for both linear cont inuous-and-discrete-time systems based on the generalized inverse theory. T he aim of this approach is to design state feedback cont rollers such that the closed-loop poles are const rained to lie w ithin a specif ied circular reg ion. This paper g ives the suff icient and necessary condit ions for the existence of desired cont rollers as w ell as the alg ebraic paramet rizat ion of these cont rollers. Compared to the ex ist ing result s, the present approach is only required to solve a linear mat rix equation, and is thus more suitable for engineering applications. Finally, a numerical example is used to show the effectiveness and directness of the present method.
