Abstract:
Tool wear is directly related w ith specif ic cutt ing condit ions. In a general FMS tool management system, too-l life is decided by the total cutt ing time that a tool is used. This method is inaccurate to judge the tool w ear states. In this paper, a new concept , tool relative w ear rat io, is proposed. Using cut ting database, a formula to calculate the tool relative w ear rat io is presented and used in FMS tool management system so as to realize the opt imal management for FMS too-l life. Examples show that this method is feasible in pract ice.
