Abstract:
T he aerodynamic heat ing and ablation model of hypersonic project iles is established. T he software is organized to simulate the t ransient thermal response of the nosetip reg ion of project iles such as those launched by electromagnetic guns. These project iles at tain hypervelocity w ithin the atmosphere and are subjected to enormous heat ing as w ell as aerodynamic loads. Therefore, the “survivability” of the noset ip is very important for designer to consider. T he aerothermal analysis of these project iles, limited to ax isymmet ric geometries at zero deg ree of angle of at tack, is discussed in this paper. The analysis includes the calculations of heat load, the internal distribut ions temperature and predict ions for the shape chang e of the pro jectile due to ablat ing effect s during the trajectory.
