Abstract:
Limestone or lime w et flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) w as invest igated in a p-i lot-scale w et ted-w all column. The experimental result s show that the lime process has higher removal ef ficiency of SO2 than the limestone process. The lime process can be operated at a low er L / G rat io than the limestone process. The suitable operat ing rang es of pH for lime and limestone are 5.5~ 6. 2 and 5. 0~ 5. 5, respect ively. T he limestone WFGD model, based on the p-i lot-scale w et ted-w all column, w as verif ied w ith experiment s. The model predict ions are in good agreement w ith the experimental data such as the deg ree of desulfurization and slurry pH-prof ile along the column, and the effect s of L / G rat io and pH value on SO2 removal. The forced-ox idat ion mode of limestone WFGD has hig her removal eff iciency of SO2 than the natura-l oxidation mode. The by-product f rom the forced-oxidation is gy psum that contains above 97 % CaSO4·2H2O. T he mean diameter of gypsum crystals is 32 μm. The by-product from the natura-l ox idat ion is a mix ture of calcium bisulf ite and below 10 % gy psum which has the mean diameter of 2. 1 μm.
