Abstract:
A rapid, automat ic method determining the concent rat ion of heterot rophic bacteria in w ater samples is described. It is based upon the measurement of the electric conductance change that takes place as bacteria growth and metabolism. The relationship between the detect ion t ime tD and the init ial bacteria concent rat ion φ( cfu/ mL) . The results from the elect ric conductance are compared w ith those f rom the standard plate counting show ing that the number of bacteria each millilitre is consistent w ith each other in both cases in the range of 102~ 107.
