Abstract:
A new type of elect ro-deposited diamond core-drill is developed w ith N-i Fe alloy bond for the purpose of machining the fine ceramic of SiO2. T he deposit ing process and the characterization of the core-drill are int roduced. Experiment s are carried out on the cut t ing performance of the drill by means of evaluat ing the tool life, the cut ting eff iciency and the cutt ing quality. The results show the drill w ith the nicke-l iron alloy bond to have hig her cutt ing eff-i ciency and w ear-resistance than those w ith nickel or nicke-l cobalt bond. The drill developed is suitable to the machining of other hard-brit tle materials.
