Abstract:
T he frict ion in penet rat ion is an un-neg ligent factor w hen designing penetrator nose shape. T he numerical result s show that for maximizing the depth penet rat ion the desig ned nose is dif ferent from the w el-l know n og ive-nose. T he presence of frict ion sharps the nose of the project ile at low impact velocit ies. The bigger the f riction coeff icient , the sharper the nose required to achieve max imum depth. For higher impact velocities, the designed nose geometry is very close to that predicted in f rictionless case. T he theory provides a important basis for projectile design.
