Abstract:
Composite nanopart icles of ferric ox ide/ oleic acid were prepared by means of o i-l w ater tw o-phase system. T he product s w ere characterized by modern technique Fourier t ransform inf rared spect ra ( FT IR) , X -ray photoelect roscopy ( XPS ) , thermog ravimet ry ( TG)-different ial thermal analysis ( DTA) , X -ray diff ract ion( XRD) and nanoparticle size distribution. The result s show composite nanopart icles of ferric oxide/ oleic acid w ith narrow-size distribution ( 12 nm) are amorphous, hydrophobic and oleophilic. T hey can be uniformly dist ributed in the org anic solvents such as toluene and cyclohexane. FTIR and XPS indicate that the nanoparticles of ferric ox ide are coated with oleic acid through chemical bond. To study thier catalyt ic property, thermal analysis w as done by comparing pure ammonia perchlorate ( AP) with AP containing nanometer ferric oxide / oleic acid composites. The results imply that the peak temperature of high temperature decomposit ion of AP with composite nanopart icles of ferric ox ide/ oleic acid shift to temperature low er than that of pure AP. With increasing content of composite nanopart icles of ferric oxide/ oleic acid, the peak of high temperature decomposit ion of AP decreases more. Key words: ferri
