Abstract:
The alumina coatings on the surface of carbon fibers were prepared by the sol-gel method. The dependence of bochmite sol concentration, coating thickness and interlaminer shear strength was studied. The results showed that the alumina coating thickness linearly increased with the rise of bochmite sol concentration. The interlaminer shear strength of samples was increased firstly and then decreased with the increase of coat ing thickness. When the concentration of sol was 0. 27 mol/L, the coating thickness was about 30 nm and the interlaminer shear strength of the epoxy resin matrix com posite reached the maximum. X - ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope re sults indicat that the alumina coating prepared on the surface of carbon f iber is even and complete.
