Themethods o f sch lieren pho tography and pressure d istribut ion w ere adopted in w ind tunne l experimen.t The in fluence of c learance betw een the nozzles and the model of the surface pressure w as used in the hybrid extended-range techn ique of the side back je.t By means of tw o-dim ensional w edge mode,l the comparison of experimentsw ith d ifferent clearancew as performed w ith in the side back jet and w ithout i.t The exact quant ities w ere acquired in the conditions o fMa = 2.0 and p 0j /p∞ = 0 ~ 88. The pressure d istribut ions around the surface o f the nozzle w ere obtained and compared w ith schlieren photos from the shockw ave on the body surface. The resu lts no t on ly prov ide the basis fo r the structural layou t design of the experimenta l side back jetmode,l but also have benef its for the experimental equipm ent design in the side back jet research and deve lopm ent of the hybrid ex tended-rang pro jectiles.
