Abstract:
A finite-difference time-domain( FDTD) method is used to solve Maxwell. sequations di -rectly. We have studied the structure, condition of  form ation and mode characteristic. The number of mode in randomcavity in creases but  the mode in terval decreases with the in crease of  the scatterer radius and the mode drifts to low frequency. The intensity of  mode attenuates with the decrease of scatterer density, but there is nearly noreson ance mode in random cavity when the density is lower than 30%. The mode in terval is influenced most strongly by the radiusand is not subject  to the den-sity. Themode characteristic in randomcavity is in dependent  of cate gories of scatterer and theopt-i mumre fractive index is about 2. According to the results, the optimumout put of random laser can be obtained by designing the parameters of scatterer based on the properties of the gain medium.
