Abstract:
An experimenta l investigat ion o f the b iax ia l tensile strength o f 3-D fine-woven-penetrated carbon /carbon ( C /C) composites is conducted. The experimentalmethod is discussed and a new k ind of b iax ia l experimenta l se-t up is designed andmanufactured. The configuration of the cruc iform spec-i men is determ ined by the finite elementmethod. Two k inds of C /C composites w ith different lay-ups are stud ied by the biax ial tensile experiment w ith stress ratio o f 1B1, and the b iaxia l strength is obtained. It show s that all of the spec imens fail in the gage section. The research resu lts lay the foundat ion for the streng th ana lysis of this material under complicated stress state.
