The modified Mg-Al layered double hydroxide(LDH) is synthesized by coprecipitation method using Al(NO3)3·9H2O,Mg(NO3)2·6H2O,C18H35O2Na and NaOH as raw materials.The structure and the thermal stability of products are characterized by FTIR,XRD and TG-DTA.The results show that when the mole ratio between C18H35O2Na and Al(NO3)3·9H2O is 1,the quantity of C18H35O-2 in the interlayer of LDH almost gets the maximum.Compared with the LDH-NO-3,the interlayer spacing of LDH is increased from 0.80 nm to 2.98 nm.The LDH modified with C18H35O2Na has a good thermal stability.PA6/LDH,PA6/MRP and PA6/MRP/LDH composites are prepared by melt extrusion.The composites are characterized by LOI and UL-94 vertical burning.The results show that there is a good flame retardant synergism between LDH and MRP in PA6 composites.When 8 phr LDH and 12 phr microencapsulated red phosphorus(MRP) are added,the oxygen index of the composites is 28.5% and the vertical firing rankes V-0.
