Abstract:
Aiming at the infinite boundary problem in the electromagnetic field calculation of railgun,a time-stepping finite-element and boundary-element coupling method is proposed for the numerical simulation of 3D transient eddy current field in railgun.The basic equantions are expressed in terms of the magnetic vector potential and electric scalar potential.The finite-element formulation is employed for the general diffusion equation in a bounded conductor region including rail and armature,while,in the exterior region,the boundary element method is developed for Laplace’s equation.The coupled boundary is directly put on the surface of conductors and no special treatment on boundary is required.This method results in considerable saving in modeling and it eliminates the surrounding air region,proving useful for solutions in railgun problems.
