Nanocomposite thin films containing Ag nanoparticles are formed by alternating adsorption of poly(sodium 4-styrene sulfonate)(PSS)and chitosan-silver ions(CTS-Ag+)using a layer-by-layer self-assembly technique and subsequent reduction of the Ag+ ions to Ag by an in situ electrochemical method.The composition,structure,and properties of the composite films are tested and analyzed with ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy(UV-vis),field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and cyclic voltammetry(CV).The FESEM images indicate that the composite film has a rough surface.The UV-vis result shows the characteristic Absorbances of PSS and Ag increase almost linearly with the number of bilayers,which suggests that the deposition process is regular and highly reproducible from layer to layer.The XPS result confirms the formation of Ag nanoparticles in the films.The multiplayer films exhibit good electrocatalytic activity for dioxygen reduction.
