polycarbonate high strain rates split Hopkinson pressure bar two-wave methods yield strength temperature-softening
In order to obtain the dynamic mechanical properties of polycarbonate(PC)material in ambient temperatures, high strain rate dynamic compressive mechanics experiments of PC are done using split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)technique at three different ambient temperatures:-50 ℃、+15 ℃ and +50 ℃.The availability of the data is examined. The data are dealt with one-wave method, and the stress-strain curves of PC in different strain rates are obtained. The effects of strain rates and temperatures on dynamic compression behaviors of PC are analyzed based on the stress-strain curves. The result suggests that PC is a significant strain rate dependent material. The yield strength of PC increases at high strain rates, which is approximately 1.6 times higher than that under quasi-static.The yield stress increases with the strain rate, showing a linear growth relationship with the logarithm of the strain rate.PC is sensitive to temperature. The yield stress decreases with the increase of temperature showing temperature softening effect. When temperature ranges in-50~+50 ℃,the mechanic performances of PC almost remain the same, and the change range of the yield stress is not more than 6%.
