To improve the seal property of corotating double spiral grooves in practical operation,the flow field of the liquid film of the mechanical seal is analyzed.The three-dimensional models of the mechanical seals of a corotating double spiral groove and a normal contact are numerically simulated using a computational fluid dynamics(CFD)software.The flow field states of the liquid film on the rotating seal ring are simulated for various working conditions,and the leakage is calculated.The pressure distribution and leakage of the liquid film are measured using professional equipments.The simulation data of a normal contact seal is compared with its experimental data,and the main reason for the error is the vibration of the equipment during the experiment.The simulation results prove that the seal ability of the corotating double spiral groove is approximately two times as the normal contact seal with a same speed and within the limit of 0.1-0.5 MPa.
